Kansas governor signs bill to provide visiting team physicians with temporary waiver

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly signed a bill that allows sports team physicians licensed in another state to receive a temporary waiver in Kansas, according to a May 9 report by The Topeka Capital-Journal.

Senate Bill 131 gives team physicians the ability to treat athletes from their team while in Kansas for practices or competitions.

The bill will lead to better sports medicine care for teams visiting the state, as athletes can receive treatment from their trusted team physician who knows their medical histories and current treatment plans, according to the report.

The temporary sports waivers are issued by the State Board of Healing Arts, the report said.
