Martin O'Malley, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, has operated on Indiana Pacers center James Wiseman, according to an Oct. 25 report from USA Today.
The surgery was to repair Mr. Wiseman's torn left Achilles tendon. While a full recovery timeline has not been established, Achilles tendon tears are typically season ending, according to the report.
Dr. O'Malley performed the procedure while the Pacers were in New York City to play the Knicks.
Mr. Wiseman suffered the injury in an Oct. 23 game against Detroit. This is his second major leg injury in his five seasons in the NBA, the report said.
