Zimmer Biomet's Z1 femoral hip system was used in its first patient cases, and the company is preparing to launch the product, according to an Oct. 28 news release.
Five things to know:
1. Jesse Otero, MD, and Jonathan Yerasimides, MD, performed the first cases with the device.
2. The Z1 system is tapered in three plans and is designed for initial axial and rotational stability. It has collared and collarless options.
3. The Z1 system comes in a single tray to minimize instrument footprints and reduce processing and sterilization time.
4. The system is also compatible with Zimmer Biomet's G7 Acetabular system for total hip replacements.
5. Zimmer Biomet plans a broad commercial launch in November.
