Basketball star Caitlin Clark has been named Time's Athlete of the Year for 2024.
This year alone, Ms. Clark led the University of Iowa to the national championship game, broke the NCAA scoring record and went on to become Rookie of the Year in the WNBA after joining the Indiana Fever.
The WNBA was named the fastest-growing brand in 2024, due, in part, to Ms. Clark's influence, according to a Dec. 10 Sports Illustrated report.
During her time with the University of Iowa, Ms. Clark received care from the university's sports medicine team, which is led by Brian Wolf, MD.
Dr. Wolf serves as director of sports medicine at the university and head team physician for University of Iowa athletics. He is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine with a particular interest in knee, shoulder and elbow injuries. He is joined on staff by Andy Peterson, MD, director of primary care sports medicine. Andrea Chilcote serves as the athletic trainer for Iowa women's basketball.
The Indiana Fever receive care from Stephen Kollias, MD, a sports medicine specialist at Indianapolis-based OrthoIndy.
Dr. Kollias evaluates players weekly, stays on the sidelines during games to treat emergency injuries, evaluates players who have sustained injuries to determine whether they can safely continue to compete, provides post-game evaluations to help plan player treatments and weekly rehabilitation, and provides necessary surgeries and referrals.
