Multiple health systems and practices are investing millions into upcoming spine and orthopedic facilities in 2024.
5 things to know:
1. Lexington-based University of Kentucky has broken ground on a $781 million project that will house its comprehensive spine center. The facility will also house the UK Markey Cancer Center, ambulatory surgery space and other outpatient services. It is expected to be completed in 2027.
2. Moline, Ill.-based ORA Orthopedics broke ground on a new $50 million location in Bettendorf, Iowa. The facility will house a 51,000-square-foot outpatient surgery center and a 14,000-square-foot space for physical and occupational therapy.
3. Parkview Health and Ortho NorthEast, both based in Fort Wayne, Ind., broke ground on a facility in Warsaw, Ind., that will house an orthopedic ASC. The project is expected to cost $11 million. It will provide a variety of outpatient orthopedic surgeries, including total joint replacements, sports medicine procedures and surgeries for the spine, hand and upper extremities.
4. Ochsner Lafayette (La.) General Medical Center broke ground on an expansion that will convert Ochsner Lafayette General Orthopedic Center into an orthopedic and sports medicine facility. The $19 million upgrade project will add a 17,200-square-foot enhancement to Ochsner's orthopedic facilities, along with a 14,000-square-foot expansion dedicated to physical therapy and sports medicine.
5. Grand Rapids Township, Mich.-based Corewell Health is opening a new $85 million orthopedic center in October. The three-story facility will offer spine, hand, foot and ankle surgery, physical therapy, sports medicine and orthopedic urgent care. It will open in early 2025.
