OrthAlign earns FDA clearance for Lantern Hip navigation system

Orthopedic

Medical device company OrthAlign has earned FDA clearance for its Lantern Hip handheld technology for direct anterior total hip arthroplasty.

The technology is used to visualize the placement of hip components in patients undergoing surgery in the supine position, according to an Oct. 3 press release.

Lantern Hip is the latest addition to the Lantern platform, joining applications for total knee, revision knee and partial knee arthroplasty.

The Lantern Hip eliminates the need for preoperative imaging or capital equipment and is compatible with most implant systems. It is designed for personalized patient care and enables individualized cup positioning compared across multiple planes, including the functional pelvic plane, anterior pelvic plane, and coronal plane, with live pelvic tracking.
