13 notable figures who had surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery since 2023

Since the start of 2023, several athletes, celebrities and leaders have turned to New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery for orthopedic care.

1. Michelle Carlson, MD, operated on the Detroit Pistons' Marvin Bagley, III.

2. Martin O'Malley, MD, operated on Lara Spencer, the Good Morning America co-anchor at HSS. She had surgery for a torn plantar plate and ligament.

3. Robert Marx, MD, performed knee surgery on Christian Dvorak, a forward for the Montreal Canadiens in the National Hockey League. 4. David Altchek, MD, of HSS, performed knee surgery on Edwin Díaz, a pitcher for Major League Baseball's New York Mets. Mr. Díaz suffered a complete tear of his patellar tendon in his right knee.

5. Dr. Carlson performed wrist surgery on Naz Reid, a player for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the National Basketball Association. 

6. Professional golfer Tiger Woods had ankle surgery. Martin O'Malley, MD, performed the subtalar fusion.

7. Dr. Carlson performed wrist surgery on CJ McCollum, a player for the New Orleans Pelicans. 

8. Al Roker, weather anchor on NBC's Today show, underwent a total knee revision. He credited David Mayman, MD, in an announcement.

9. Edwin Hsu, MD,, performed a hip resurfacing procedure on NHL winger Patrick Kane. 

10. Scott Rodeo, MD, performed knee surgery on Daniel Jones, a quarterback for the New York Giants.

11. NHL player Tomas Nosek, of the New Jersey Devils, underwent surgery performed by Dr. O'Malley.

12. New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson had surgery on his left ankle.

13. The Dalai Lama had a knee replacement.
