Dr. George Russell to lead UPMC's orthopedic trauma division

George Russell, MD, was named chief of orthopedic trauma at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine’s department of orthopedic surgery, according to a Dec. 4 news release. 

Dr. Russel is a pioneer in orthopedic trauma and developed the clamshell osteotomy procedure. He joined UPMC in November after working as orthopedic chair and CEO of University Physicians at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

In his new role, he will oversee coordination of orthopedic trauma care across UPMC's network.

Dr. Russell authored and co-authored more than 50 articles and several book chapters. He earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed his residency at the niversity of Cincinnati Medical Center.
