1st patient enrolled in study of fat injections for knee osteoarthritis

Lipogems enrolled the first patient in a U.S. study focusing on MicroFat injections in knee osteoarthritis.

MicroFat injections will be compared with corticosteroid injections for treating pain and function of patients with moderate knee osteoarthritis, according to a Jan. 13 news release. Yogesh Mittal, MD, of The Orthopaedic Clinic in Tulsa, Okla. enrolled the study's first patient. 

Up to 20 sites will be involved in the study. Lipogems' injections serve as an alternative to total knee replacement.
