Dr. Cato Laurencin enters AOA Hall of Fame

Cato Laurencin, MD, PhD, earned the American Orthopaedic Association's Distinguished Contributions to Orthopaedics award and entered the society's Hall of Fame on June 15.

The Distinguished Contributions award recognized him for his personal achievements and broad contribution to orthopedics, according to a news release from Storrs-based University of Connecticut. 

He is the first surgeon to earn induction into all of the following: the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Medicine and the National Academy of Inventors. He is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

This is the second honor Dr. Laurencin received in the last week. He was also elected to the European Academy of Sciences in recognition of his work in regenerative engineering.
