From leading new innovations and growing its footprint, Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedic Institute saw several key developments in 2024.

1. G. Russell Huffman, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Rothman Orthopedic Institute, completed the first reverse total shoulder arthroplasty using the Apple Vision Pro.

2. Independence Blue Cross and Rothman Orthopaedic Institute extended their value-based care agreement for three more years.

3. Rothman Orthopaedic Institute broke ties with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles over future malpractice risk.

4. Physicians with Rothman Orthopaedic Institute assisted with the in the promotion and dissemination of the NeuroSleeve, a device for patients with paralysis.

5. Mike West, who led Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, for 22 years died Sept. 16 at age 65.

6. Rothman Orthopaedics partnered with the Hurt! orthopedic mobile application in its Florida market.

7. Rothman Orthopaedic Institute laid off 5% of its workforce, and the process began in January.

9. As of Dec. 5, Rothman has more than 35 locations.

10. Rothman opened a new office in Philadelphia on Dec. 9. The new facility replaces the Center City Philadelphia office. The practice also leased space in Newtown, Pa. 

11. Rothman Orthopaedic Institute unveiled its relocated Lake Nona office in Orlando, Fla.
