Dr. Hamid Abbasi travels to Oman to teach OLLIF spine surgery

Hamid Abbasi, MD, PhD, chief medical officer of Inspired Spine, traveled to Muscat, Oman to teach the oblique lateral lumbar interbody fusion procedure, the practice said Jan. 18.

Dr. Abbasi is teaching the OLLIF technique to spine surgeon Dr. Ahmed Jahwari, according to a news release. OLLIF surgery can address a variety of spine conditions including spinal stenosis, herniated discs and degenerative disc disease. It has reduced blood loss and quicker recovery compared to open spine surgery.

"Our technology is even more important in countries with fewer resources than the U.S., by reducing the time spent in the operating room and in hospital, and reducing the risk associated with surgery, many countries can provide high end spinal care to patients who did not have options otherwise, Dr. Abbasi said in the release. "With 10 years of data collection of over 1600 patients and over 10 peer reviewed published studies, we have demonstrated the game changing nature of the Trans Kambin OLLIF technique."

Inspired Spine is based in Burnsville, Minn. and has three locations in the state.
