Nicholas Grosso, MD, is president of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Bethesda, Md.

Five things to know:

1. Dr. Grosso is a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served as chief of orthopedics at Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Ky., Kimbrough Army Community Hospital in Ft. Meade, Md., and General Hospital in Seoul, South Korea. He was also a flight surgeon for the 24th Aviation Brigade, 24th Infantry Division at Ft. Steward, Ga.

2. Along with his work at CAO, he practices at the Orthopaedic Associates of Central Maryland Care Center in Catonsville, Columbia and Eldersburg. He specializes in sports medicine and total joint replacement. 

3. He received several awards and honors for his military and clinical work. Honors include the Meritorious Service Medal, Davis Award, Kuwaiti Liberation Medal and recognition as a "Top Doc" by Baltimore Magazine and Washingtonian Magazine. 

4. He received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda and completed his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.

5. Dr. Grosso is involved with multiple professional organizations including the Maryland Patient Care and Access Coalition, Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Maryland Orthopaedic Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
