Surgeons with Plano-based Texas Back Institute and Washington, D.C.-based Howard University Hospital performed the first cases with Sure Retractors' sterile anterior and posterior cervical retractors, the medtech company said Oct. 18.
Richard Guyer, MD, of the Texas Back Institute, and Damirez Fossett, MD, of Howard University Hospital, performed the debut cases, according to a news release. Dr. Guyer used the new retractor for a 2-level cervical disc replacement, and Dr. Fossett performed a 5-level posterior cervical laminectomy.
The new single-use retractors are radiolucent and can help improve efficiency and reduce infection risk.
