Mighty Oak Medical partners with HP for 3D-printed spine surgery models

Spinal Tech

Spinal technology medical device company Mighty Oak Medical has partnered with HP to develop 3D-printed medical models and surgical guides using an HP Jet Fusion 5200, according to a June 12 report from TCT Magazine.

Mighty Oak's cornerstone Firefly planning and navigation platform is FDA-cleared and increases surgical precision and safety while reducing efficiency challenges common in spinal fusion surgery.

With the creation of 3D-printed anatomical models and disposable guides, surgeons can drill, tap and place pedicle screws quickly.

Mighty Oak has been using additive technology for 11 years in the production of spinal technologies and medical devices.

Since installing the HP printers onto the factory floor, Mighty Oak has improved replicability and consistency in pedicle screw placement and achieved 99.7 percent screw placement accuracy, according to the report.
