Indiana health systems adds Mako robot for joint replacements

Robotics

New Castle, Ind.-based Henry Community Health is offering joint replacement procedures utilizing the Mako Smart Robotics system, according to a Dec. 30 report by The Courier-Times

Joint replacements with the Mako system will be available at Henry County Center for Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Thomas Mathews, MD, will complete the first case using the robot on Jan. 3.

The robotic system includes 3D CT-based planning, AccuStop haptic technology and data analysis to help surgeons increase accuracy and precision during surgery.

Each patient has a customized plan for surgery, which can lead to less soft tissue damage and greater bone preservation.

The center will offer total knee, total hip and partial knee replacement procedures with the Mako system, the report said.
