Johnson & Johnson's spine robot: What we know so far

Velys Spine, the robot from Johnson & Johnson's DePuy Synthes, is slated for a 2025 commercial release.

Here's what we know about the robot so far:

1. Johnson & Johnson leaders first announced plans for the spine robot at the 2022 Wells Fargo Healthcare Conference. 

2. Velys Spine earned FDA 510(k) clearance in August. It was developed in partnership with eCential Robotics.

3. Velys Spine is a dual-use robotics and standalone navigation platform. It has pathology-specific workflows and is compatible with DePuy Synthes' portfolio of spine implants.

4. The robot is indicated for planning and instrumenting spinal fusion procedures in the cervical, thoracolumbar and sacroiliac spine.
