Rapid City, S.D.-based Monument Health has bought an ExcelsiusGPS robotic spine surgery platform from Globus Medical.
ExcelsiusGPS is designed to assist surgeons with the placement of pedicle screws, improve preoperative planning and boost operating room efficiency, according to Globus Medical. The navigation system creates a preoperative plan and helps surgeons visualize a patient's anatomy in real-time during procedures.
Kyle Schmidt, MD, a neurosurgeon at Monument Health Orthopedic & Specialty Hospital, praised the robot for its potential to reduce tissue dissection and manipulation, decrease intraoperative radiation exposure and improve surgical accuracy.
