New Jersey medical center adds da Vinci robotic surgery system

Paramus, N.J.-based Bergen New Bridge Medical Center has acquired the da Vinci 5 Surgical System, according to a Nov. 8 report by roi-nj.com.

The robot system allows surgeons to perform less invasive surgical procedures, leading to shorter hospital stays, reduced pain and shorter recoveries for patients.

"For our surgical team, this system allows us to better feel the tension and pressure of tissue during procedures which can help us perform safer and more gentle surgeries on our patients," J. Christopher Kollar, DO, chair of the surgery department at the center, said.

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center is among a limited number of hospitals in New Jersey equipped with the da Vinci surgical system, the report said.
