Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood (Texas) has added Stryker's Mako robot, according to a June 23 report from Brownwood News.
John Masterson, MD, is the only surgeon at the hospital trained on the robot, which is used for total hip and total knee replacements. The robot is designed to help surgeons create a custom surgical plan for patients.
"This procedure is a wonderful option for adults who suffer from degenerative joint disease," Dr. Masterson said. "Each patient’s surgical plan is personalized through the use of a virtual 3D view system, pre-operatively creating a clear plan for positioning the implant before entering the operating room."
