Northwest Specialty Hospital in Post Falls, Idaho, is reportedly one of the first facilities in the country to implement the ExcelsiusGPS Interbody Solutions platform, according to an Oct. 12 news release.
The system enhances the capabilities of Globus Medical's spine robot, which enables surgeons to create 3D preoperative plans and then guides them through that plan intraoperatively.
The latest platform can navigate entire lateral lumbar interbody fusion and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion procedures.
Advantages of robotic-assisted spine surgery include less soft tissue disruption, shorter OR times, quicker recovery and reduced length of stay, according to the company.
Globus Medical CEO Dave Demski said the new technology is aimed at providing "best in-class surgical planning, robotic navigation and expandable interbody technologies" to improve OR efficiency and clinical results in spine surgery.
