The NFL, the NFL Physicians Society and the Professional Football Athletic Trainers Society's Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative has reached 21 medical schools for its 2024 class.
Participating medical students from 21 medical schools were matched with NFL clubs for one-month clinical rotations focused on orthopedic surgery and primary sports medicine, according to a June 25 news release.
NFL clubs including the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts are participating in this year's program. Medical schools involved include Atlanta-based Morehouse School of Medicine, Nashville, Tenn.-based Meharry Medical College and LSU Health New Orleans.
The Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative launched in 2022 and aims to increase and diversify the pipeline of students who want to work in sports medicine.
