Why Wisconsin is the best state for orthopedic surgeons to practice

Orthopedic

Wisconsin has been named the best state for physicians to practice medicine in for 2024, according to Medscape's "Best & Worst Places to Practice 2024" report, published May 30.

The state secured the "best" title for several reasons — for one, physicians face the second lowest malpractice insurance premiums in the nation. Additionally, it has had the smallest number of malpractice filings over the last 10 years.

In addition, physician compensation is among the highest in the country, cost of living in the state is low and the median home price sits at just $265,000.

The majority of residents in the state also have health insurance, and work-life balance rates are good.

In contrast, West Virginia was named the worst state for physicians to practice in.
