7 states with no orthopedic residents

More than half of medical residents stay to practice medicine in the state where they complete their residencies, according to research from the Association of American Medical Colleges.

This could leave the seven states that have no orthopedic residents at a disadvantage when it comes to recruitment, especially amid ongoing and predicted provider shortages.

Here are the seven states that did not have any orthopedic residency matches in 2024, according to data from the National Resident Matching Program:

1. Alaska

2. Delaware

3. Idaho

4. Maine

5. Montana

6. South Dakota

7. Wyoming
