Dr. Timothy Kremchek performs hybrid elbow surgery on Milwaukee Brewers pitcher

Orthopedic

Timothy Kremchek, MD, performed a hybrid procedure to repair elbow ligament damage on Wade Miley, a pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Mr. Miley, who is out for the rest of the 2024 MLB season, has had issues with his left elbow for the past few years and has recently dealt with shoulder issues and other injuries, according to a May 8 news release.

The hybrid procedure is more complex than Tommy John surgery, replacing the damaged elbow ligament with a tendon from another part of the body and then placing a collagen-braided brace to support the elbow.

The procedure leads to more stiffness in the joint, but also more stability, allowing players to strengthen their arm without putting too much strain on the replaced ligament.

Dr. Kremchek aims to have Mr. Miley pitching in April or May 2025, the release said.

Dr. Kremchek is an orthopedic surgeon and has been affiliated with the Cincinnati Reds for more than 25 years.
