Orthopedic

Several U.S.-based orthopedic powerhouses have taken their services overseas, providing care in countries including Ireland and Tanzania.

Here are four orthopedic powerhouses making moves internationally:

1. Pittsburgh-based UPMC recently opened a sports medicine clinic in Ireland in partnership with Mardyke Arena University College Cork. In January 2023, UPMC acquired its fourth hospital in the country.

2. New York City-based Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian launched a training program for surgeons in Tanzania in 2008. Since then, its surgeons have performed hundreds of procedures in the country. Weill Cornell Neurosurgeon Lynn McGrath, MD, recently performed the first endoscopic spine surgery in Tanzania.

3. In January 2023, Dror Paley, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and owner of the Paley Institute in West Palm Beach, Fla., launched a clinic in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The clinic was launched in partnership with Middle Eastern healthcare service provider Burjeel Holdings, and it marks Dr. Paley's first clinic in the Middle East and Asia.

4. In 2022, Cleveland Clinic London opened a 325,000-square-foot hospital that features orthopedics and other specialty services.
