Hyalex Orthopaedics named Thomas Vail, MD, as chief medical officer, the company said April 15.
Dr. Vail specializes in total and partial joint replacements and was previously chair of orthopedics at the University of California San Francisco, according to a news release. His research interests include adult reconstruction and cartilage repair strategies.
Hyalex Orthopaedics also named Adam Gridley to its board of directors. He and Dr. Vail will help with the scientific and operational work as Hyalex Orthopaedics brings its cartilage platform into human clinical trials.
"This platform has the potential to offer patients a joint restoration treatment that mimics the properties of natural cartilage in distinction to traditional orthopedic materials. … The opportunity to play a role in such a potentially significant advance in patient care was too exciting for me to pass up," Dr. Vail said in the release.
