Becker's reported on two places adding smart knee replacements to their orthopedic services.
1. Whittier, Calif.-based PIH Health added Zimmer Biomet's Persona IQ implant in February and is one of the first systems in the Los Angeles region to offer it. The device collects data related to postoperative recovery and shares them via Bluetooth to physicians and patients.
2. In March, Tyler Noble, DO, of OrthoSC, performed the first smart knee replacement in the Conway, S.C. area.
"This groundbreaking innovation gives us access to real-time kinematic data straight from the implant after surgery," Dr. Noble said in a news release. "This means any potential issues or complications can be detected and addressed early, leading to better outcomes for patients."
