James Voos, MD, head team physician for the Cleveland Browns and the Jack and Mary Herrick Distinguished Chair of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at University Hospitals in Cleveland, has been elected president of the NFL Physicians Society, according to a March 5 report from NBC affiliate WKYC.

Dr. Voos was unanimously elected at the group's annual meeting. His plans for the two-year tenure include streamlining emergency plans, integrating more wearable technology and introducing new state-of-the-art medical treatments for professional athletes.

Dr. Voos wants every professional team to be on the same page when it comes to player emergencies, no matter where in the world a match is being held.

Dr. Voos has served as the Browns' head team physician since 2014 and is also lead orthopedic surgeon for multiple Northeast Ohio colleges and high schools. In his role, he hopes to collaborate with other major sports including the NBA, Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League.

Previously, Dr. Voos was a team physician for the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs and head physician for the Kansas City Ballet, a position he now holds with the Cleveland Ballet. He also served as the assistant team physician for the New York Giants.
