6 places adding smart knee replacements in 2023

Six places have added Zimmer Biomet's smart knee implant, Persona IQ, in 2023. The device monitors patient metrics after surgery and shared the data through a wireless connection.

1. Miami-based Mount Sinai Medical Centerbecame the first hospital in south Florida to use Persona IQ. Karim Sabeh, MD, completed the hospital's first case with it.

2. Jennie Stuart Health in Hopkinsville, Ky. began using Persona IQ, according to a Feb. 1 report. 

3. Kevin Pugh, MD, performed Pikeville (Ky.) Medical Center's first smart knee replacement.

4. Atlantic Health System's Morristown (N.J.) Medical Center added smart knee implant Persona IQ. John Dundon, MD, an orthopedic surgeon affiliated with Morristown Medical Center, was the first orthopedic surgeon in New Jersey to perform surgery with the smart knee implant. 

5. Baltimore-based Mercy Medical Center orthopedic surgeons Marc Hungerford, MD, and Philip Neubauer, MD, have become two of the first surgeons in the state to offer Zimmer Biomet's PersonaIQ "smart implant" technology for knee replacement surgeries. 

6. Northern Montana Hospital in Havre added smart knee replacements with Zimmer Biomet's Persona IQ device.
