Nemours Children's receives $6.75M orthopedic donation

Orthopedic

Wilmington, Del.-based Nemours Children’s Health, Delaware Valley has received a $6.75 million donation for its orthopedic surgery program, according to a Dec. 8 report from the Delaware Business Times.

The funding will go towards developing enhanced programming for patients with osteogenesis imperfecta and skeletal dysplasia, among other conditions.

The donation will endow two chairs, Jeanne Franzone, MD, surgical director of Nemours’ multidisciplinary osteogenesis imperfecta program, and W.G. Stuart Mackenzie, MD, surgical director of Nemours’ multidisciplinary skeletal dysplasia program.

Along with the creation of two endowed chair positions, the donation will also create an endowment that will be used to provide extracurricular programming for skeletal dysplasia and OI patients and their families.

Programming will include life skills training and provide families with the opportunity to hear from Nemours experts and other families who have experienced similar challenges.
