Orthopedic

Here are three orthopedic "firsts" Becker's has reported on since Nov. 9:

1. Carmel, N.Y.-based Somers Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Group completed its first bridge-enhanced ACL repair, or BEAR, implant procedure for ACL restoration.

2. Tampa-based Florida Orthopaedic Institute surgeon Christopher Baker, MD, performed the first surgeries using Anika Therapeutics' Integrity Implant System, which is intended to promote healing in rotator cuff repair and other tendon procedures using a hyaluronic acid-based scaffold with bone and tendon fixation components and single use arthroscopic delivery instruments.

3. An orthopedic surgery team including Ignacio Garcia Fleury, MD, Maria Bozoghlian, MD, Joseph Buckwalter, MD, PhD, and Benjamin Miller, MD, performed the first carpal tunnel release procedure at the Iowa City (Iowa) Free Medical & Dental Clinic.
