Hospital for Special Surgery teams with self-employed insurance group

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery is collaborating with Transcarent, an insurance company for employees of self-insured employers.

Members will have access to the hospital's services with little to no out-of-pocket costs, the insurer said in an Aug. 18 news release. Transcarent will handle member referrals, help cover costs of some orthopedic surgeries and help cover travel costs when needed.

"Leading employers remain dissatisfied with the access to, quality of, and cost of our healthcare system, especially the surgery experience for their employees and their families," Glen Tullman, Transcarent CEO, said in the release. "HSS has long been the acknowledged industry leader in orthopedic care, and we are excited to collaborate with them to bring the Transcarent experience with surgery care to people across the nation who need high-quality, affordable care."
