Hamid Abbasi, MD, PhD, donated all of his intellectual property to Avicenna Technical University, which promotes education, training and the spread of technological information.
The move to donate his intellectual property comes from the need for improved spine care globally, according to a Sept. 24 news release. Dr. Abbasi has traveled to multiple countries in recent years to teach surgeons the oblique lateral lumbar interbody fusion technique.
Dr. Abbasi's OLLIF technique, also called the Trans-Kambin OLLIF procedure, requires a handful of instruments instead of needing new multimillion-dollar investments in technology.
