Using artificial intelligence can reduce the time needed to analyze lumbar spine MRIs, according to a study published July 25 in the European Journal of Radiology.
Researchers drew data from 51 randomly selected adult lumbar spine patients. Interpretation time for MRI readings with AI was on average 8.9 minutes compared to almost 23 minutes without it. The interquartile range for MRI interpretation time with AI assistance was about 5 minutes.
The study concluded that "employing a deep learning model for analyzing MRI scans of lumbar spinal stenosis leads to significant time savings and improvements in interobserver agreement for Radiology in-training residents."
