Alexander Vaccaro, MD, PhD, and Pierce Nunley, MD, are collaborating with Surgalign to support Holo AI insights and the company's other artificial intelligence platforms.

They will work to advance Holo AI Insights, which was launched in March, according to a May 3 news release from Surgalign. The partnership aims to enhance clinical decision support and patient care with AI.

Holo AI Insights is designed for the lumbar spine. It's currently used for research but there is interest for use in patient care, the release said.

"I’ve had the privilege of working with many companies in evaluating and developing new technologies," Dr. Vaccaro, president of Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedic Institute, said in the release. "With Holo AI Insights, for the first time, we will be able to assess imaging with real, quantitative information which should drive more informed clinical decisions and ultimately, help drive better patient outcomes."

Dr. Nunley, of Shreveport-based Spine Institute of Louisiana, will lead efforts in the state.

"Through Holo AI Insights, we gain a clearer picture of medical images based on quantifiable data which can assist us in formulating clinical guidance for our patients," Dr. Nunley said in the release. "AI is becoming more prominent in the medical field and we look forward to working with Surgalign to unlock its potential."
