4 spine, orthopedic surgery firsts in 7 days


Becker's reported on four spine and orthopedic surgery firsts since March 30:

1. Douglas Unis, MD, completed the first fully remote simulated robotic total knee arthroplasty from 1,700 miles away, using a system from Monogram Orthopedics. 

2. Eric Tannenbaum, MD, medical director of orthopedics at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg, Ind., has completed the system's first hip arthroscopy.

3. Fernando Villamil, MD, completed the first clinical case with ZSFab's cervical interbody implant.

4. Stanley Hoang, MD, performed the first robot-assisted single position prone lumbar fusion surgery in Louisiana.
