Matthew Oetgen, MD, is a surgeon at Washington, D.C.-based Children's National Hospital.
He joined the faculty in 2009 and was named division chief in 2015, according to Children's National's website. He currently leads development of clinical and research programs that streamline care for children with complex orthopedic needs.
Under his leadership, the Spinal Fusion Surgical Home at Children's National launched in 2016, the website said. The program led to decreases in the average hospital stay and pain scores for children with idiopathic scoliosis.
Dr. Oetgen received his medical degree at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., did his residency at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and was a Dorothy and Bryant Edwards Fellow in pediatric orthopedic surgery and scoliosis at Dallas-based Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, the website said.
Dr. Oetgen has authored more than 60 book chapters and publications and has presented at many conferences in his field, the website said. He's a researcher in the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation and is a principal investigator on multiple grant-funded clinical studies. He is also an associate professor of pediatrics and orthopedics at George Washington University.
Recently, he was named as a "Top Doctor" by Washingtonian Magazine, according to an Oct. 22 press release.
