NuVasive, SMAIO end orthopedic partnership

Spinal Tech

NuVasive and orthopedic devicemaker SMAIO mutually decided to end their software co-development efforts, according to a Jan. 27 news release.

The two companies initially partnered in 2022 for a development and license agreement for SMAIO's surgical planning products and commercialization in the U.S. In 2023, NuVasive was acquired by Globus Medical.

With the agreement terminated neither company will receive compensation, and sales restrictions are lifted.

Independent of the split, SMAIO plans to bolster its efforts on U.S. expansion.
