Mark Stouffer, MD, completed the first case in Tenon Medical's clinical study for the Catamaran sacroiliac joint fusion system, the devicemaker said Nov. 15.

The procedure was completed Nov. 14 at Zion Surgery Center in St. George, Utah, according to a news release. Tenon Medical's study spans across multiple sites, and patients will be followed for two years to mark outcomes, radiographic assessments and adverse events.

The Catamaran SI joint system is designed to offer a less invasive approach and has a single, titanium implant design.

"The Catamaran, with its ability to transfix the joint and potentially facilitate bony in-growth through the SI joint is one of the more novel implant designs that we have available to treat patients with SI joint disruption," Dr. Stouffer said in the release. "I look forward to the results of this study which will allow us to continue to assess the clinical effectiveness of this implant and its radiographic profile."
