University of Washington employs 'novel' robotic spine surgery

Robotics

Orthopedic surgeon Richard Bransford, MD, has begun utilizing robotics for minimally invasive spine surgeries at the University of Washington Medicine in Seattle.

In a YouTube video included in an Oct. 21 release, Dr. Bransford  utilizes the Globus Medical ExcelsiusGPS system to complete a procedure for degenerative disc disease.

Bransford said he hopes to train other doctors to use the system.

“What this means … is that not only can we ideally do a better job taking care of patients, but also to train our medical students, residents, fellows [and] the next generation of surgeons,” Bransford said.
