2 upcoming spine robots: 6 things to know

Stryker's Mako Spine robot is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2024, and DePuy Synthes' Velys Spine is expected to be commercially available in 2025.

Here's what to know about both:

1. Velys Spine earned FDA 510(k) clearance in August. 

2. Velys Spine is a dual-use robotics and standalone navigation platform created in collaboration with eCential Robotics. It has pathology-specific workflows and is compatible with DePuy Synthes' portfolio of spine implants. 

3. Velys Spine is designed for planning and instrumenting spinal fusion procedures in the cervical, thoracolumbar and sacroiliac spine.

4. Mako Spine is expected to launch in the fourth quarter. 

5. Mako Spine will include a robotic arm for pedicle screw guidance and Stryker's existing Q Guidance software.

6. Plans for Mako Spine were announced in 2022.
