Glenwood Springs, Colo.-based ValleyOrtho, part of Valley View health system, has completed its 1,000th procedure using Stryker's Mako robotic arm for joint replacement surgeries.
The practice added a Mako arm in 2018, becoming the first hospital in the Roaring Fork Valley and Eagle River Valley regions to do so, according to a March 22 press release sent to Becker's.
Valley View now offers Mako arms at Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs and Valley View Surgery Center in Basalt, Colo.
Surgeons can use the Mako arm for knee and hip replacements, pre-planning the procedure on Mako's software and then performing the operation by guiding the robotic arm.
Robotic procedures allow for quicker rehabilitation time and shorter hospital stays.
ValleyOrtho surgeons Christopher George, MD, Daniel O'Connor, MD, and Tomas Pevny, MD, are all trained to perform robotic joint replacements.
