7 key robotics headlines in July

From surgeon milestones to devicemaker partnerships, here are seven key developments in spine and orthopedic robots from July:

1. Surgeons at the Allegheny Health Network Neuroscience Institute in Pittsburgh completed their 1,000th case with Synaptive's Modus V robotic system.

2. Paris-based Ganymed Robotics raised 21 million euros, or approximately $21.3 million, to support its expansion into the U.S.

3. Samuel Taylon, MD, marked his 100th robotic-assisted procedure using Globus Medical's ExcelsiusGPS in 18 months.

4. Douglas Crowther, DO, completed his 100th robot-assisted procedure in under one year using ExcelsiusGPS technology.

5. Physicians employed Globus Medical's ExcelsiusGPS robot in Sydney for the first time.

6. Zimmer Biomet and New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery have inked a three-year deal to create the HSS/Zimmer Biomet Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence in Robotic Joint Replacement.

7. Frederick Buechel Jr., MD, was appointed director of robotic-assisted knee surgery at New York City-based Lenox Hill Hospital.
