Minnesota hospital adds Johnson & Johnson's surgical robot

Robotics

Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, Minn., added the Velys robot for joint replacements in September, the Brainerd Dispatch reported Jan. 13.

Velys, from Johnson & Johnson, uses a CT scan to assist preoperative planning and increase accuracy during surgery, according to the report. Erik Severson, MD, is one of the surgeons trained to use the technology.

"It's a marriage of old technology with new technology and allows a surgeon to still be a surgeon and doesn’t slow down the case, which is really important when you’re trying to prevent things like infection," Dr. Severson told the publication.
