Illinois hospital installs new spinal robot for precise spinal surgery

Robotics

UnityPoint Health - Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, Ill., installed the new Mazor X Stealth Edition Spinal Robot that will increase the precision of spinal fusions, reports GateHouse Media affiliate Journal Star.

The new technology from Mazor Robotics— an Israeli medical device company that focuses on spine surgery — helps surgeons place screws accurately during minimally invasive procedures.

The robot is combined with a navigation system that allows the surgeon to see the screws in real-time as he places them.

According to Mazor Robotics representatives, the only other hospital in Illinois using this technology is Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
