Orthopedic PA burnout rate nears 30%

Nearly 30% of orthopedic surgery physician assistants are experiencing at least one symptom of burnout, according to the latest specialty report from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, released July 29.

Despite a slight increase in burnout symptoms across all specialties, 86.7% of PAs said they feel satisfied with their career choices. 

Overall, orthopedic surgery PAs have a lower burnout rate (29.2%) than many of their counterparts. 

Emergency medicine PAs face the highest burnout rate (42.2%) while dermatologists experience the lowest rate (26.1%). 

Among all physician assistants, 34.1% said they are experiencing at least one symptom of burnout.
