Penn Medicine names orthopedic chair

Benjamin "Kyle" Potter, MD, will become the chair of Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine's orthopedic department in July after spending more than 22 years in active duty service with the U.S. Army.

Dr. Potter retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel in 2023. He was accountable for surgery education, training and research for around 150 physicians and staff while with the U.S. Army. He is currently the director of the Department of Defense limb optimization and osseointegration program at Uniformed Services University and chief orthopedic surgeon for the amputee program at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

He also has experience as director for surgery at Walter Reed and has operated on more than 1,000 injured service personnel. He is a past president of the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons and is credited with more than 200 peer-reviewed publications.

In addition to his role at Penn Medicine, Dr. Potter will also join the Perelman School of Medicine.
