Nationwide Children's Hospital to take over pediatric sports medicine, orthopedics program

Nationwide Children's Hospital-Toledo (Ohio) will take over Cincinnati-based Mercy Health's pediatric sports medicine and orthopedic services program, which serves local schools and youth programs in the area.

Nationwide Children's opened in Toledo in March 2022 and has since expanded pediatric services to offer orthopedics, audiology and ear, nose and throat care. Sports medicine is its newest speciality.

Nationwide will now offer sports medicine and orthopedic care to 30 local schools and community programs in Ohio and Michigan.

Mercy Health will continue to provide orthopedic and sports medicine care for local colleges and universities.

Nationwide Children's newest orthopedic surgeon, Christopher Jackson, MD, will focus on treating student athletes as part of the partnership program.

"This transition is one of many ways our two hospitals continue to work together and build upon the existing legacy developed by Mercy Children's Hospital to provide compassionate and quality care close to home," Jennifer Strauss, vice president of Nationwide Children's, said in a Jan. 18 press release from Mercy Health.
