OrthoIndy names new president

Practice Management

Ed Hellman, MD, is stepping down as president of Indianapolis-based OrthoIndy, and Matthew Lavery, MD, will succeed him.

Dr. Hellman said in a Jan. 25 LinkedIn post that he will also step back from his clinical practice and explore part-time opportunities in consulting and management. He plans to retire in March, according to a Jan. 30 news release shared with Becker's.

During Dr. Hellman's tenure at OrthoIndy, he established a dyad leadership model, pioneered PELTO Health Partners, co-founded the Indiana Physicians Health Alliance, facilitated mergers and launched OrthoIndiana.

"While we have achieved significant milestones, there remains more to be done," Dr. Hellman said in his post. "I am confident that OrthoIndy is poised for continued success under the capable leadership of Dr. Matt Lavery, the incoming president."

Dr. Lavery is an orthopedic surgeon, and he earned his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield, Ill. He completed his residency at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
